About the lab
What does technology make us do?
It started with a different question about technology.
Technology is usually discussed in terms of what it can do: faster, smarter, easier, more connected. We became interested in what it makes people do — the habits, choices, rituals and trade-offs that emerge around products.
We investigate the moments where interface, psychology, incentive and culture meet.
Case Studies
We take familiar products apart to understand the behavioural ideas inside them.
Experiments
We change one thing, observe what happens, and document what the result can teach us.
Research Notes
We connect behavioural science and existing evidence to everyday technology.
Why the lab exists
A button can create urgency. A number can create status. A notification can interrupt dinner. A streak can turn an intention into a ritual. None of these things are neutral once millions of people encounter them every day.
WholeArc Labs exists to study those moments. We look at products and digital culture through behavioural science, product analysis, observation and small experiments — beginning with the human moment before reaching for the theory.
We are curious rather than alarmist. Technology is not automatically good or bad, and behaviour is rarely explained by one trick or bias. The interesting work is in understanding the system: what the product rewards, what the person wants, and what happens when those forces meet.
Our recurring question is simple: what does technology make us do? The answer may be useful, surprising, uncomfortable or unfinished. That is the point of the lab.
